Get Involved with MULS!

There are plenty of ways that you can help out and get involved with MULS - the old saying 'the more the merrier' definitely applies. Depending on your level of committment, you can receive references from the MULS President and cool prizes like movie tickets! See below for some of the many ways that you can get involved.

MULS Meetings

The MULS Executive meets one Tuesday night per month to discuss upcoming events and hear reports on the past month. Members are more than welcome to attend to check in on what we've been up to, ask questions, or suggest ideas.

The next MULS Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 1 March at 6.30 pm in the Moot Court at Macquarie University.

The Brief

If you have something on your mind, why not write for The Brief? It's a quarterly student publication that deals with anything and everything. You can write about an issue in the legal profession that you feel needs to be heard, your experiences as a law student, or just send in some funny photos.

We're also looking for keen eyed students to join the editing subcommittee to proof articles before they go to print.

For more information, contact Michelle Aitken at thebrief@muls.org, and check out www.muls.org/thebrief/.

Campus Committee

The Campus Committee is the guiding force behind the education functions of MULS and a great way to play an active role in your law degree. If you want to represent your year on the committee, have a real passion to see students educated on particular topics or want to have a say on assessment criteria and appeals then this is the place for you. The Campus Committee will be meeting throughout the year to discuss all these issues and more.

If you would like to find out more about the committee or jump right in and get involved please fill out an application form at http://tinyurl.com/CampusCommitteeApplication2011

For more information, please contact Nicholas Ferrari (education@muls.org) and Aimee Riley (educationofficer@muls.org).

Competitions

We are always searching for students to join the Competitions Committee to help coordinate our internal competitions (this is also a great way to casually run into members of the legal profession who will be judging the matches). If you are a motivated student, then get on board.

If you think life is a stage show, and if you’re feeling a little bit dramatic, we’d love for you to volunteer as a client for for our internal competitions. Step into the shoes of an aggrieved, emotional and perplexed client and put your colleagues up to the task of solving your conundrums.

If you want to get involved with competitions but are not in a position to compete, then we'd love you to help us time keep or be a Judge's Associate. There is no better way to gain the experience needed for success in future years when you can compete.

Please contact Reece Corbett-Wilkins (competitions@muls.org) and Elysse Lloyd (competitionsofficer@muls.org) for more information.

Any ideas?

If there is anything that you would like for the Society to look into or would like to bring to our attention, go for it! We're always interested in new initiatives - email Kathy Molla-Abbasi at president@muls.org with your ideas.
