Client Interview
The Client Interview Competition helps to refine and improve client relationship skills. In a profession where it is essential to clearly understand just what it is that the client wants, the Client Interview Competition is the ideal way to build skills in this area.
There is no necessary prerequisite for this competition, as students in any year are able to compete. In teams of two, students (acting as lawyers) interview a client in a hypothetical first consultation.
Prior to the competition teams are provided with a short memo outlining the nature of the client’s problem. It is then up to students to extract all relevant information from the client and come to a conclusion about the nature of the problem during a 30-40 minute session.
The Grand Final of the Competition is judged by some of Sydney’s leading solicitors, academics and other legal professionals.
In 2010, the Competition was won by Reece Corbett-Wilkins and Nicholas Ferrari, with runners up Madeleine Boyd and Stephanie Millen. Reece and Nicholas were also the top ranked team at the 2010 Australian Law Students' Association (ALSA) Conference in Adelaide, and as a result will be representing Australia at the International Client Consultation Competition in the Netherlands in April.
The Client Interview Workshop will be held on Thursday, 3 March. Whether you're a first-timer or looking for a quick refresher course before the competitions start, the workshops are your ideal resource for making sure you're on top of your game.
