Despite the name, Law Camp has absolutely nothing to do with Law. Macquarie University Law Society (MULS) every year takes around two hundred First Year Law Students away for a weekend. The objective is simply to allow you to make new friends and get to know familiar faces around campus. University is a huge, complex and an often frightening place when you're new, it's even worse when you don't know anyone on campus. Law Camp helps ease the transition into your law degree. It is the perfect way to meet fellow students doing your combined degree, or just meeting new people.
Our Law Camp has unlimited alcohol! And by alcohol, I don't mean cheap, tasteless vodka and goon! Law Camp will have quality beer and an appetising array of spirits!
So why a Law Camp? Well, do we really need an excuse to take 200 hundred first years away to an exclusive location, with unlimited alcohol? Probably. The nature of Law means that you will be studying at Macquarie University for 5 years. It also dictates that you will probably be studying with the same people for the next 5 years! So why not get to know the people that will be with you in your long and short tutorials or why not learn the name of the person that sits next to you in lectures?
In the past, Law Camp tickets have been sold out within the first week of university. I guess that says it all, people appreciate this amazing once in a university degree opportunity. So come on, let your hair down (just for one weekend!) do something you won’t regret!
Miss it, and it's social suicide!
Don't just take my word for it; here is what two First Years from 2008 wrote about their experiences on Law Camp! (Law Camp Reviews)
Sally Cruse (second year Arts / Law student)
150 law students and cases and cases of alcohol went down a treat on the weekend. Hot sun, great water, fantastic companionship, a couple bottles of rumba and a six pack on the beach before a barbie definitely made the weekend.
We all had heaps of fun sociallising during the first day. Second night trivia was defiantly one of the funniest things. The walk off saw Justin going Zoolander style with my bra down his pants competing against "superman". A massive bonfire on the beach later kept us all going into late hours. All in all it was a great time with many new good friends made.

Rather than just provide an overview of what went down on this year's first year law camp (drink, sleep, eat, play then do it all again) i thought i might just share a few of the classic moments from my own personal experience....
Many earned reputations that will probably precede them for the rest of their time at mac law. Justin proved his skill as a male model, tearing up the catwalk and bringing the ladies to their knees with some very sexy though somewhat obscene moves inspired by the great Derek Zoolander. Some thrill seekers tried their hands at "extreme skinny dipping" in what camp staff warned us were shark infested waters! And on the drinking front "the Baron" or "Bazza" as us boys liked to call him, proved himself to be the true heavyweight of the camp, earning a reputation as the "one gulp wonder", pushing himself to new extremes (and somehow managing to burst a blood vessel in his eye in the process).
These were just a few moments of madness that happened on this year’s camp, and im sure there are many more epic tales out there. Good times were had by all (excluding a few savage hangovers) and im sure everyone would agree when i say to MULS that they did an awesome job!
